JAVIER MASCHERANO has been sentenced to one year in prison for tax evasion,
according to reports in Spain.
Spanish paper El Mundo claim the Barcelona star’s lawyer has requested a
suspension of the prison sentence and for it to be replaced with a fine.
Former West Ham and Liverpool defender Mascherano has also been fined €815,000
(£624,000), with sources claiming a further fine of €21,000 (£16,000) is
likely to be issued as a replacement for the prison sentence.
Mascherano admitted two counts of fraud totalling £1.1m after the defender
failed to declare earnings in 2011 and 2012.
