ROMARIO has, ever so modestly, declared he was a better player than both
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 1994 World Cup winner made a list of his top five best footballers ever —
and named himself in second place, behind compatriot Pele.

Romario found no place for either Messi or Ronaldo, despite the last EIGHT
Ballons d’Or having gone to one of the pair.
The former PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona star attempted to justify selecting
himself, insisting: “I believe I deserve a place in the list for my stature.
“For what I did. For the fact I wasn’t an athlete to have arrived where I
arrived.”
Romario — who was famed for his wacky behaviour on and off the field — named
Diego Maradona in third place.
While, his successor as the Brazil’s main man, Ronaldo, in fourth place and
current Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane completed the five-man list.
Romario spent two seasons at the Nou Camp, scoring 34 goals in 43 league
games, which would seem impressive had Messi and Ronaldo not changed the
landscape of goals-per-game forever.
Just last season, Barca’s Argentinian superstar netted 58 goals in 57
appearances — while his arch-rival in Madrid scored 61 times in 54 games.
