ANDY CARROLL will wear Fernando Torres’ No 9 shirt after completing his
£35million move to Liverpool.
The England hitman, 22, finalised his switch tonight after Torres joined
Chelsea for £50m.
Carroll, who forced through the deal after handing in a transfer request
earlier today, has signed a 5½-year contract.
He passed a medical and agreed personal terms just minutes before tonight’s
11pm transfer deadline.
The staggering fee is a record for a British player – beating the £29.1m
Manchester United paid Leeds for Rio Ferdinand in 2002.
Confirmation of Carroll’s signing means the Reds’ transfer record has been
broken twice in the space of a few hours after a £22.8million deal for Ajax
forward Luis Suarez was finalised earlier in the evening.
