But after Smalling did a trick in training he has decided on a new name for
him.

Van Gaal said: “I said to ‘Mike’ Smalling that I call him ‘Pele’ because he
had a fantastic move so it is easier to call him Pele now!”

Van Gaal got his names mixed up again at a press conference ahead of United’s
FA Cup game with Sheffield United.

Referring to Will Keane’s return to the club from a loan spell at Preston he
called him by his brother’s name Michael – who Van Gaal sold to Burnley.

Talking about young players taking responsibility Van Gaal said: “Now Michael
Keane has to do it by himself… or Will Keane.

“Michael is an easy name for me!”
