THE nation’s favourite dining out cuisine has been revealed – and it may take
you by surprise.
Thai came out on top of a recent poll which asked the British public what type
of food they’d go for when visiting a restaurant.
The research, conducted by diners’ club ,
showed 22 per cent of people eating out would choose the Southeast Asian
cuisine, followed by Italian (19 per cent) and Indian (16 per cent).
Mexican food was the fourth most popular choice (13 per cent) while nine per
cent would pick Japanese.
Strangely, just three per cent of us would opt for our native British grub.

Interestingly, British food proved to be the most popular choice for lunch (27
per cent).
Two thirds of people said they look for a varied menu or the chance to try new
foods (68 per cent) when deciding on an evening meal venue.
The survey of 1,000 people also proved us to be a nation of bargain hunters,
with 37 per cent admitting to discounts and special offers being a key
factor when choosing where to eat out.
We also don’t like dining alone, as 89 per cent said they wouldn’t go to a
restaurant by themselves due to embarrassment (18 per cent), feeling
self-conscious (34 per cent) and having no one to talk to (28 per cent).
A third of us now dine out at least once a week.
Matt Turner, Founder and CEO of Tastecard, said: “Since launching ten
years ago, there’s definitely been a shift in the number of menu options and
creativity within them, all of which have helped create a world where dining
out is much more accessible to people across the board.
“Overall, it’s great to see that people can now enjoy a meal out without
it being a special occasion.”
