IMAGES of the posh six-bedroom mansion disgraced footballer Adam Johnson
has now swapped for a jail cell have been released.
The ex-England international is currently spending his first full day in
prison after being sentenced to six years following his conviction over
child sex offences at Bradford crown court on Thursday.
His new life will no doubt be a far cry from his undeniably luxurious
£1.5million home.
His new life will no doubt be a far cry from his undeniably luxurious
£1.5million home.
The sportsman had purchased the property in October 2012 after his transfer to
Sunderland.
It boasts a huge 2.2 acres of land, spiral staircases, a gym, library and
triple garage.
When it was up for sale in 2012, estate agents Sanderson Young described the
Durham property as “one of the most impressive homes in the area”.
The ad gushed: “The house sits majestically on a 2.2 acre mature woodland
plot, which is access by a sweeping gravel drive.
“This stunning house was designed to maximise natural light with full
height glazing and is a strong feature in many rooms of the house.
“The house was designed for family living in the northern wing and formal
entertaining in the southern wing.
“Its extensive landscaped gardens must be viewed to appreciated.”
Despite convictions for two counts of sexual activity with a child and one of
child grooming, Johnson is not believed to have any plans to sell the
sprawling mansion.
The property couldn’t be more different to Armley Prison, the castle-like
building that boasts twin accommodation and sees inmates share an unscreened
stainless steel toilet.
Father-of-one Johnson, 28, arrived at the prison in a baggy grey hoodie and
tracksuit bottoms on Thursday, with his personal belongings in an overnight
bag.
The football star will now have been seen by the prison doctor, given a £1
microwave meal and prison sheets.
After being transported to Leeds from neighbouring town Bradford in a prison
van, the convicted criminal will have been offered the choice between a
packet of cigarettes or rolling tobacco, and handed £4 credit for his phone
so he can contact friends and family.
The prisoner will also have been given generic prison issue toiletries
including a toothbrush and paste, soap, shampoo and deodorant.

Gone are the days where Johnson will don designer clothing, as he is now
limited to six plain jumpers and polo shirts, four sets of pants, two pairs
of trainers, a beanie hat, gloves and fleece, as well as socks, underpants
and night-wear.
Johnson will have been advised to bring his own pair of flip flops for the
grotty prison showers, a tea towel for washing pots in his jail cell, and
ear plugs.
Incoming cash will go into a prison bank account to pay for basic toiletries,
stamps, books, pens and paper.
