AN American Prince fan has devised a bizarre way to cash in on fans’ grief
as the world mourns the loss of the legendary singer.
As people clamour to get their hands on Prince memorabilia, one eBay user is
trying to flog “purple rain from the day Prince left us” for the rather
princely sum of £68.
In an auction which would surely make doves cry, DancingDave04 is currently
attempting to sell a small amount of water in a dirty former jam jar.
He claims the water was collected from outside Paisley Park Studios, Prince’s
home, on
the day he died at the age of 57 on April 21.
According to backdated weather reports, it did indeed rain in Minneapolis on
the day. But whether the jam jar’s contents originated from Paisley
Park Studios remains to be seen.
Bidding on the ‘Purple Rain’ starts at a hefty $100 (£68), and DancingDave04
warns British fans that shipping to the UK will cost a further $30 (£20),
with customs duties put on top of this when the rain enters the country.
Die-hard Prince fans are urged to bid in the auction with caution, since just
one person has expressed their satisfaction with DancingDave04 so far, after
the entrepreneurial eBayer bought some books and other materials to help him
play role-playing game Runequest.
The seller wrote: “Great communication, fast ship, great to do business with!”
Fans have struggled to come to terms with the death of music icon Prince, who
died just days after his last stage performance on April
14 in Atlanta.
Appearing before fans, he tragically urged them to “wait a few days before you
waste any prayers” on him.
The star was found dead in a lift at his sprawling Paisley Park complex.

Though details from his autopsy are yet to be released, rumours of
longstanding health problems have surfaced following his passing, with many
suggesting the devout Jehovah’s Witness may have refused further treatment
on religious grounds.
This leaves his siblings in line for a huge payout, and the value is
continuing to grow thanks to new interest in his music.
At the time of writing, DancingDave04 is yet to receive any bids, with just
two days left until the auction ends.
Unsurprisingly, if bidders do decide to purchase the grubby jam jar, the
auction does not allow for returns.
