THE ex-husband of the PR girl at the centre of Ryan Giggs’ marriage split
has blamed the star for his own divorce, insisting: “There were three of us
in the relationship.”
Damian Burke’s then-wife Kate Greville, 32, dumped him by text after spending
18 months working closely with the Man United legend.
Friends say she started having secret Botox treatments as she grew close to
the love rat and even paraded around a designer bag thought to be a gift
from Giggs.
Damian, 38, told a mutual friend of the couple: “Giggs ended our marriage —
it’s as simple as that. She and him were both as bad as each other.
“She could have been throwing herself at him and he would have been lapping it
up. She always fancied herself as a wag.
“She was away a lot of the time in that last year she worked with him, there
were plenty of opportunities for them.”
She and Damian had married in 2011 in a glitzy £40,000 ceremony in Ibiza
followed by a £5,000 honeymoon in Oman.
Damian told the friend: “It was like a celebrity wedding, Kate had expensive
tastes so she would only settle for the best. She craved a celebrity status.
She was always trying to climb the social ladder.
“Kate is a fame-hungry wannabe wag. She was never going to stop until she
bagged a footballer.”
She met Giggs in 2013 when she started PR work for his £24million Hotel
Football venture, next to Old Trafford, with Gary Neville.
But United fan Damian, who idolised Giggs as a player, grew suspicious as
Kate started working late, became glued to her phone and constantly
mentioned the star.
He had also noticed his already high-maintenance wife had started spending
much more money on her appearance.
Friends said they thought Kate, said to model herself on Katie Price, was
using Botox in the run-up to the hotel’s launch in February 2015.
Damian told the mutual friend: “When she got the Giggs job she kept me at
arm’s length, meaning I never got to meet the footballer. Instead she would
randomly drop Giggs’ name into chat.
“At one point he would be mentioned every day as our family life started to
deteriorate. I was sick of her bragging.
“As Giggs and Gary Neville prepared to unveil their other project, Café
Football in London, Kate would also spend long weekends working in the
capital.
“But then, in the run-up to the launch of Hotel Football, Kate declared she
had booked in to stay in the hotel for a week for work reasons, even though
the marital home was 20 minutes’ drive away. We had an argument over the
weekend at the start of February when a mysterious text came through to
Kate’s mobile.
“She snatched it away and wouldn’t let me see it and I think now it was from
Giggs. I was so annoyed by it I went to stay with my parents on Saturday
night but came back the next day.”
On the following Thursday Kate was in London for three days and Damian
expected her to come back and the row be sorted out.
But after sitting work exams on Saturday February 22, 2015, he received her
bombshell text.
Damian told his friend: “It read, ‘Just to let you know I’m back at the
house clearing my stuff out’.
“In one week she had got that secret text, gone to work for Giggs in London,
and when she’s come back she left me. It was pretty blatant and pretty cold.
“I think they could have been sleeping together because our own physical
relationship had fizzled out. I tried to reignite things and save our
marriage by whisking her away for a romantic getaway for her birthday, but
as usual she was glued to her phone.
“And on our return, she admitted she had been hoping for a tanned Mulberry
handbag.
“A couple of days later, she was proudly showing one off on her arm — claiming
the £600 bag was from her boss.
“Well that just doesn’t happen. It was blatantly from Giggs.
“Looking back it’s pretty obvious what was going on. She was interested in
Giggs and it brought on the end of our marriage.
“The whole beauty regime — she obviously wanted to look her very best for
Giggs.

“And all this for someone she branded a love rat when his affair with Imogen
Thomas hit the news stands. But her opinion completely changed — she would
say, ‘Ryan is actually a really nice guy when you get to know him.’ I
couldn’t stand it. She split with me because she thought she was moving on
to something better with Giggs.”
The couple were divorced by the summer of 2015 and have not spoken since.
Friends say Damian has pieced together that final year of marriage after
reading the Giggs story in The Sun on Sunday.
The conversation with Damian was revealed by a friend familiar with both
parties, who added: “It is hard for him to know if they had a full-blown
affair or not but you would expect something to be there for her to leave
him. You would not give up a marriage unless there was something better to
go to.”
Damian refused to comment when approached by The Sun on Sunday last night.
Kate was also approached for a comment in Abu Dhabi where she now works, but
she did not respond.
Last night a source insisted Kate and Giggs have never had a sexual
relationship.
