WE used to be known as a nation of prudes, but the things British people get
up to in the bedroom are becoming increasingly raunchy.
A study has revealed that 62% of Brits fantasise about either sexual
domination or submission, whilst the majority of both sexes have looked at
pornography.
Authors at the Adam Smith Institute analysed data from the British Sexual
Fantasy Research Project, a survey of 19,000 Brits, to reach some
eyebrow-raising findings.

It was found that most of us have seen porn of some variety, with men making
up the majority of porn viewers.
In fact, a vast 86% of men surveyed admitted to looking at pornography, in
comparison to 56% of women.
However, when it comes to our sexual fantasies, both sexes are as racy as the
other, with 29% of British people fantasising about playing a dominant or
“aggressive” role during sex.
And there’s good news for all those sexually dominant people, as a staggering
third of all Brits enjoy being submissive or “passive” in the bedroom.
Meanwhile, at the extreme end of things, 4% of people entertain the idea of
being consensually violent during sex, whilst 6% of Brits fantasise about
being the victim of such violence.
When these trends in the survey are applied to the wider British population,
it is fair to assume that as many as 2.2 million of us have violent sexual
fantasies of some kind.
However, researchers have been quick to add that there is no link between
having these consensually violent fantasies and committing actual sexual
offences.
The rising preference for bondage and sexual dominance comes after the release
of the raunchy ‘Fifty Shades’ books and films, which were made famous for
their depiction of BDSM sex.
The original book topped best-seller lists around the world, selling over 125
million copies worldwide since its release in 2011.
BDSM stands for bondage, dominance and submission and sadomasochism, although
all sorts of bedroom antics can fall under the BDSM banner.
And researchers have since speculated that this emergence of kinky sex in
popular media could be responsible for the nation’s willingness to cast off
the vanilla sex and clip on the cuffs.
