HOLLYWOOD star Cate Blanchett has revealed she is bisexual.
The two-time Oscar winner opened up about her “many relationships with women” during a promo for her latest film Carol, in which she plays a lesbian.
When asked if it was her first go at playing a gay role, the 45-year-old replied: “On film, or in real life?”
When pressed to confirm she has dated women, she told Variety: “Yes. Many times.”
But the Blue Jasmine star said she wasn’t a fan of labels and had never thought about the fact her character never comes out.
Cate – who has three sons Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and Ignatius, six, and adopted baby daughter Edith with husband Andrew Upton – added: “I don’t think Carol thought about it.”
Carol premières at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17 and if the movie is a success it could earn Cate her seventh Oscar nomination.
The actress has already bagged gongs for her roles in The Aviator and Blue Jasmine.
However, despite her triumph, Cate admitted she hates watching her own movies and wasn’t happy with her performance in 2004’s The Aviator.
She added: “I was filled with disappointment and regret. I never think I have it. Maybe that’s why I keep working.”
