AFTER months of anticipation the jewel in the crown of the awards season was
finally upon us.
Stars of the big screen descended on Hollywood for the Oscars, held at the
Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, last night.
But when it comes to style, these stars certainly did not win any awards for
their frightful frocks.
Whoopi Goldberg wore a black satin dress inspired by the one worn by Bette
Davis in All About Eve.
But we’re not sure the look has quite the same effect with that enormous
octopus ring and eye-catching tattoo.
Some harsh Twitter users said Whoopi’s look reminded them of the character of
Fiona from Shrek.

Heidi Klum raised eyebrows for all the wrong reasons with this lilac chiffon
frock designed by Marchesa.
The bizarre one-sleeved gown had a strong look of nan’s nightie about it,
while some onlookers drew comparisons to Disney’s Cinderella’s Fairy
Godmother.

Reese Witherspoon suffered an awkward fashion faux pas with this strapless
purple gown.
The black lacy trim around the back of the dress looked like a bra as it
peeped over the top of the protruding satin.
Costume designer Sandy Powell (not Tilda Swinton) channelled her inner Bowie
in this metallic patterned power suit.
Though onlookers pointed out her bright orange hair and green outfit bore a
striking resemblance to Jim Carrey’s Riddler.

Fellow designer Jacqueline West also had a shocker with this shapeless black
gown which did nothing for her figure.
The usually stylish Kate Winslet suffered a rare fashion fail with this
clingy, shimmering Ralph Lauren gown.
While it showed off her stunning figure in all the right places, the dress was
so shiny it looked like a cross between a bin bag and an oily puddle.
Singer Andra Day ran the risk of being mistaken for one of the yellow Oscar
statues in this ill-fitting number.
The strapless gown was particularly unflattering around her bust.
Brit model and actress Lily Cole looked like she’d wrapped herself in BacoFoil
for the occasion.
Songwriter Diane Warren looked like she’d rocked up for a standard day at the
office rather than the Academy Awards ceremony.
The ill-fitting, collar-less jacket didn’t match the assymetrical top
underneath while her clumpy boots looked well worn in and offered up yet
another colour clash.
This bizarre leather ensemble from Scandal star Kerry Washington had a touch
of the dominatrix about it.
Though the Versace gown showed off her curves and a fashionable front split
revealed a sexy flash of leg, the outfit looked out of place on the red
carpet.
Amy Poehler failed to impress after she turned up in a winged, curtain-like
dress dotted with embroidered flowers and butterflies.
