A NEW study has found that men who opt out of wearing briefs have a better
chance of conceiving children than those who swear by pants.
A study by the National Institute of Child Health and Development and Stanford
University revealed some interesting results.
It tested 500 men with different underwear and sleeping habits for 12 months
and compared the quality of their sperm.
Researchers found that men who didn’t wear undies during the day or night had
25 per cent lower rates of damaged DNA in their sperm than those who did.
“Type of underwear worn during the day and to bed is associated with semen
quality,” said the lead author.
“Better [sperm] quality parameters are observed in men wearing boxers during
the day and none in bed.”
The findings were presented at the annual meeting of American Society for
Reproductive Medicine in Baltimore and seemed to support the 2012 British
study, which produced similar results.
“We have known for some time that men who increase the temperature of their
testicles, either through the heat exposure at work or by wearing tight
underwear, have poorer semen quality compared to men whose testicles are
cooler,” said Allan Pacey, a leading fertility expert at the University of
Sheffield.
