A SUSPECTED Islamist fanatic has been shot dead by cops after stabbing three
officers in a knife rampage at a police station.
Reports claim the attacker – shouting Allahu Akbar – stabbed the policemen
during the attack in Joue-les-Tours, near Tours in central France.
The 20-year-old alleged Islamic State supporter – originally from Burundi –
was shot twice and killed by another officer.
He is reported to have entered the police station at around 2pm today and
wounded a policeman in the face, who was working on reception.
The unnamed assailant – who is thought to be known to French police – then
stabbed two other officers who tried to tackle him before he was killed. The
three policemen were rushed to hospital where one remains in a serious
condition.
A French police source said: “The investigation is moving towards an attack
against the security forces motivated by radical Islam.
“It looks like the mode of action advocated by the Islamic State.”
The suspect’s brother is believed to be known to anti-terror cops after he
tried to leave France for Syria before giving up.
