Cult leader ‘raped slaves for 30 years’

Daughter ‘held prisoner’

A CULT leader kept women followers as slaves and raped two for more than 30 years, a court was told yesterday.

Aravindan Balakrishnan’s captives included his daughter, born in the commune and barred from the outside world, the trial heard.

The Communist, 75, allegedly brainwashed them into thinking he was a god and cowed them with sex and violence.

He allegedly claimed rape would “purify them of bourgeois culture”.

His daughter cried and wet herself as she saw him beat women, jurors heard.

The girl, also beaten, was so servile she called him “my lord and master”, it was said.

One Christmas Eve she allegedly saw mum Sian Davies tied up and lying in blood after falling from a window.

Sian died the next year, 1997.

Prosecutor Rosina Cottage QC accused Balakrishnan of “brutal manipulation to subjugate women”.

She added: “He used violence and sexual degradation.”

He set up the cult in Brixton, South London, to overthrow the state.

Ms Cottage told Southwark crown court: “The house was locked at all times. He said it had to be locked to keep out fascist agents.” His daughter fled aged 30.

Balakrishnan, of Edmonton, North London, denies seven indecent assaults, four rapes, three ABH raps, one of child cruelty and one of false imprisonment.

Case continues.
