MO FARAH wrote his name into the history books by claiming his second gold
medal at the Olympic Stadium.
Having already won the 10,000 metres last Saturday, Farah had his fans on
their feet once again to make it a double in the 5,000m.
And Team GB had the long-distance star to thank for capturing the 27th gold of
these Games in a time of 13:41.66.
The double gold medallist said: “It’s just unbelievable.
“Once I hit the front, I just knew I had to hold onto it. I had great
support from the crowd and it means so much to me.
“My twins are due soon and now I’ve got one gold medal for each of them.
“The Olympics doesn’t come round often and everything has worked out so
well. I’m just amazed.”
Roared on by a capacity 80,000-strong crowd, Farah hit the front with 700m
remaining, covering the last lap in under 53 seconds to hold off Ethiopia’s
Dejen Gebremeskel to win in 13min and 41.66sec.
Thomas Longosiwa of Kenya claimed bronze.
