Corbyn’s cat’s name isn’t Chairman Meow but… Cat

LABOUR leader greets his feline friend in Spanish

JEREMY Corbyn’s cat is not called Chairman Meow after all, but El Gato –
Spanish for cat.

The arch leftie revealed how he greets the cat in Spanish and has trained him
to answer to him whistling the 1970s hit “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old
Oak Tree”.

He said: “It’s a black and white cat. I always call it ‘El Gato’, which is
just Spanish for cat.

“When I see the cat I say, ‘Buenos dias, El Gato’. Actually, cats don’t know
their name, cats know voices.

“What he does respond to when I ask him to come in, is the tune of ‘Tie a
Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree’. I whistle to it. I can’t sing, you
see.”

Mr Corbyn’s previous cat was named after former Labour PM Harold Wilson.

In an interview with the Independent on Sunday, the Labour leader also
revealed he was sceptical about God and knows the words to most hymns and
prayers having attending church every Sunday until he was 14.

He also said he would not be accepting cash raised for him to buy his “dream
bike”: a £475 Raleigh Criterium.

The Islington MP said he would hand the £5,000 raise to charity, preferring to
buy the bike as a treat to himself for his 67th birthday in May.
