The Jump 2016: Ski crash ruins Beth Tweddle’s back and she’s airlifted to hospital for operation

Olympic gymnast's tragic exit has allowed Heather Mills to return to show

OLYMPIC heroine Beth Tweddle has seriously injured her back after crashing
into a barrier while skiing on Channel 4 show The Jump.

The retired bronze medal-winning gymnast, 30, is now awaiting an operation.

Beth was put in a neck brace before being airlifted to hospital following the
horror in Austria.

Sources last night told The Sun on Sunday that she had damaged two vertebrae,
sparking fears she could have life-changing injuries.

A Channel 4 source said: “Beth was on the jump on Saturday afternoon and
managed to pull it off correctly.

“But she didn’t slow down in time or didn’t stop properly and crashed into a
barrier.”

Beth suffered a serious back injury and was last night due to undergo an
operation following the accident on Saturday afternoon.

Beth is the fifth star to hurt herself on the show this year.

Rebecca Adlington, 26, left after dislocating her shoulder in a high-speed
crash.

Actress Tina Hobley, 44, left after dislocating her elbow. Actors Sid Owen,
44, and Louisa Lytton, 26, have also been hurt. A small army of celebrities
have been injured since the show first aired in 2014.

They include fashion journalist Henry Conway, who shattered a bone in his hand
into seven pieces in 2014. In the same year, cricketer Darren Gough cracked
a rib, sprained a wrist, cut his leg and suffered ligament damage.

The show has been blasted for risking stars’ health but a spokesman said: “The
health and safety of the competitors is always paramount.”
