Vanessa Chalmers
Vanessa is a journalist in health and lifestyle, covering the Health Features Editor on maternity since September 2023. Vanessa has been in health specialism since 2016 after studying for a BA (Hons) in Multimedia Journalism. She began her career at Healthista in 2016 as a Food and Lifestyle Multimedia Journalist, producing recipe content for YouTube, reviewing the ever-evolving health food product market and the fitness and wellbeing industry in London. At MailOnline, as a health reporter, Vanessa was among the first health journalists to begin coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019 before moving to The Sun in 2020. As well as extensively covering the Covid crisis, Vanessa has covered the outbreak of Ebola from 2018 to 2020, and several others from mpox to hepatitis. Vanessa has written health news and features on everything from cancer to diabetes, weight loss, fertility, fitness, and all the weird and wonderful in between. She has a special interest in women's health, taking her to the forefront of the Fabulous Menopause Matters campaign, which launched in October 2021, and debunking fads and complicated health advice. In 2020, she was invited onto Nick Ferrari's LBC show to warn against copying some of Gweneth Paltrow's 'wellness' practises. Her experience in online health news reporting has more recently extended into feature writing and editing of health print content in the Sun newspaper and Fabulous Magazine.
