GAMSTOP reports record registrations as new five-year auto-renewal option launches
GAMSTOP, the UK’s national self-exclusion scheme for online gambling, has reported record registration numbers to kick off the new year.
The service experienced its highest daily sign-up figures since launching in 2018, with 415 registrations on 1 January, 413 on 2 January, and 396 on 6 January.
These numbers mark the three busiest days for GAMSTOP since May 2023, underscoring its critical role in helping vulnerable consumers take control of their gambling habits.
In response to user feedback, has introduced a new '5 years with auto-renewal' exclusion option.
This feature is designed for those seeking long-term protection from gambling websites and apps.
The new option builds on concerns identified in an independent review by Ipsos, which revealed that many users are anxious about the end of their exclusion period and would prefer more permanent solutions.
Under the current system, exclusions remain in effect for up to seven years after the initial term unless a consumer actively requests their removal.
The new 5-year auto-renewal option ensures that exclusions are automatically extended for another five years at the end of each term unless the user opts out.
For added support, GAMSTOP will send email reminders every 15 months to consumers with 5-year exclusions (with or without auto-renewal), helping them stay informed about upcoming expiry or renewal dates.
Since its inception, more than 500,000 individuals have used GAMSTOP’s services.
The new option now joins existing exclusion periods of six months, one year, and five years. Consumers with an active five-year exclusion can upgrade to include auto-renewal via their account settings.
Gamstop Group CEO, Fiona Palmer said: "We have come a very long way since our launch in April 2018, but our journey doesn’t stop there.
"Our goal is to provide consumers with tools and options that empower them to take control of their gambling activity. As such, we’re consistently listening to feedback and evaluating the effectiveness of our service.
"Consumers wanted longer exclusion periods and we listened. The introduction of the 5-year auto-renewal exclusion is an important step in ensuring consumers peace of mind when using our service and helping vulnerable consumers take a sustained break from their gambling."
