Millions watched as McIlroy beat England's Justin Rose in a dramatic sudden-death play-off to win the Masters title in Augusta.
The 35-year-old became just the sixth person to achieve a career Grand Slam joining Americans Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods and South Africa's Gary Player.
McIlroy began The Masters as a 20/1 chance to win the 72nd edition of SPOTY, but he's now the odds-on favourite and looks tough to oppose.
Although there is a glimmer of hope for the cashing pack as it's been 36 years since a golfer won the award, with Nick Faldo the last back in 1989.
Luke Littler is next at 3/1.

Littler, 17, was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and runner-up to Olympic gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson for the main prize in 2024.
But his 7-3 victory over Michael van Gerwen to become the youngest ever PDC World Darts Championship winner back in January could see him go one better.
The Warrington-born teenager averaged just over 102 and threw 12 180s in a darting masterclass as he claimed the £500,000 first prize and lifted the Sid Waddell Trophy for the first time.
Lando Norris (5/1) was runner up in the F1 Drivers' Championship last year for McLaren and has enjoyed an excellent start to the season with four podium finishes and one win.
Formula One is the second most successful sport in SPOTY history with eight wins from the likes of Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and Lewis Hamilton - only Athletics has more (19).
