Clever punter turns £3 into nearly £5k thanks to dramatic Leeds comeback
TALK about leaving it late!
One Betfair customer enjoyed a better Monday than most after scooping a colossal £4,485 from a modest £3 stake in the most dramatic of circumstances.
The mystery punter stuck three quid on a half time/full time treble for Monday's evening fixtures in England, Spain and Portugal at odds of 1,495/1.
The bettor required Sheffield United to be leading at the break with Championship leaders Leeds clinching maximum points by the final whistle.
They also plucked out Sevilla to be leading at half-time and draw at full-time in their La Liga contest against Mallorca.
And the final selection was a brave decision to back a draw at half-time and full-time in the clash between Porto and Guimaraes with the sides having not drawn in Porto in their last 22 meetings since 2005!
Everything was going according to plan with Sheffield United and Sevilla winning at the break, with the third pick goalless in Portugal.
But with time ticking away, it looked as though this punter's betting slip was heading for the bin.
That was until Junior Firpo netted an equaliser in the 72nd-minute for Leeds at Bramall Lane before 89th and 90th-minute goals from Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe turned things around for Leeds.
At roughly the same time, Martin Valjent arrived to score his only goal of the season against Sevilla to help 3/1 underdogs Mallorca to an unlikely draw.
That left our mystery punter needing Guimaraes to somehow find an equaliser against Porto in their own backyard, where they'd only conceded four all season!
But with four minutes of normal time remaining, former Benfica youth player Umaro Embalo netted on only his third appearance for the club and helped Guimaraes survive a nerve-jangling TEN MINUTES of stoppage time.
