We have a big family and, like any other, have had our problems over the years including drugs, depression and gambling addictions.
He blames all our family issues on me, saying I was too soft.
He is 64 and I am 61. We have three grown-up sons and four grandchildren.
The criticism from him is relentless and fuelled by whisky.
As soon as he gets back from work at about 4.30pm he starts downing booze.
He drinks half a litre every day and then the verbal abuse starts.
Never does he want to get any exercise and has put on a lot of weight.
I can see him seizing up before me.
I feel so lonely and don’t see any point in staying together any more.
DEIDRE SAYS: It sounds like your husband is depressed.
When he is sober, explain how his behaviour is affecting you.
Tell him you are worried about his health and ask him to see his doctor.
He has a problem but you can’t stop him – he has to want to do that himself.
