STICKY FINGERS

I’m tempted to call off my wedding after my fiance’s mum stole from my work

DEAR DEIDRE: MY future mum-in-law’s light-fingered habits are making me question my relationship with my fiancé.

We are due to get married next spring but after his mum embarrassed me at work by stealing luxury goods, I’m having second thoughts.

No issue is too small, too large or too embarrassing. Read our personal replies here.

My fiancé is 25 and I’m 24. His mum is 53.

I work for a hotel chain and regularly give them little goodies as treats.

Recently, I arranged a night for his mum and her boyfriend in our best suite as a birthday treat. I got a big staff discount but it was still expensive.

The day after, I was called in by my manager.

They had CCTV footage of her leaving with bed linen, towels, dressing gowns and the hairdryer. They didn’t even pay for the mini bar.

I am mortified and have settled the outstanding bill out of my own pocket.
I’ve told my fiancé but he doesn’t know what to say and I feel so let down.

What should I do?

DATE DILEMMA
How soon is too soon to date after losing my husband?

DEIDRE SAYS: Your boyfriend is no doubt embarrassed about his mum’s behaviour.

Let him know how you are feeling. He needs to know how serious the situation is. Ask him to have a quiet word with his mum to let her know how her stealing is reflecting on both of you.

I’m sending you my support pack Standing Up For Yourself to help you both calmly explain the implications of her selfish behaviour.
