CASH COW

I don’t have money to pay for my care as my daughter demands handouts of £5000

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M being financially abused by my daughter, who constantly asks for handouts.

I’m her mum. I’m 72 and I’m widowed. We only had one daughter and she is now 45 and a single mum to three boys who I adore.

She asks for £50 here and there but I never get it back - now she owes me £5000

I’m worried about my old age. I’ve got health issues and I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to cope with the stairs.

I’ll need my money to pay for my care.

DEIDRE SAYS: Nobody wants to see their children suffering but if you keep being her cash cow, she’ll continue asking. She’s not learning to budget properly.

Find a quiet moment to tell her the handouts are stopping because you need to keep your money for your old age.

Suggest that she contacts Turn2us (, 0808 802 2000) which is a charity to help people with benefits and grants.
