Ever since my wife has gone through the menopause I’ve become celibate
DEAR DEIDRE: I USED to have the best sex life with my wife but since she went through the menopause I’ve become celibate.
It’s been years since we were last intimate and while I know she can’t help it, it still hurts.
She is 60, I’m 62 and we’ve been married for 35 years.
We used to have sex three or four times a week but now I’m lucky if I even get as much as a cuddle.
All I want is to feel close to her again but it seems impossible.
She’s never affectionate any more and every time we go to bed she turns her back on me.
I understand it must be hard and I’ve tried my best to support her but I miss our intimacy so much.
I’ve tried to speak to her about it but, every time, she avoids the topic and changes the conversation.
How can we get back to the loving couple we once were?

DEIDRE SAYS: Sadly, the loss of a woman’s sex hormones following menopause can often lead to her libido going and discomfort during sex.
However, a lot of couples do regain a fulfilling sex life and I am sure you can too.
Talk to your wife again, explain how much you miss intimacy, and tell her how you feel. Suggest she speaks to her GP.
In the meantime, my support pack Love And The Mature Woman should be helpful for you both to read.
