DEAR DEIDRE: MY sister saw my ex-girlfriend kissing my best mate. I had no idea they were together until then.
I’m 26 and my ex is 24. She ended our relationship after three years, saying she needed space to work out what she wanted.
I was devastated. But with the help of my best mate, who listened to me pouring my heart out to him, I was moving on.
My mate was even going to organise my stag do, as I’d proposed to my ex.
I recently bumped into my ex at a new gym I’ve been going to.
She told me she had met someone else but she wouldn’t say who it was when I asked her.

I had arranged to meet my best mate that evening and I told him I’d seen my ex.
He asked me whether I would ever have her back.
I told him I wouldn’t but the truth is, deep down, I know I would in a heartbeat.
A few days later my sister then called me and said she’d seen my ex and my best mate together, cuddling up to each other.

I sent messages to both of them and they admitted they were together.
I now feel so betrayed, by both of them. I can’t help wondering to myself how long this has been going on.
MORE FROM DEAR DEIDRE
DEIDRE SAYS: I know you’re devastated but none of us have rights over our exes.
To be fair, your mate did ask you how you felt about your ex-girlfriend.
Once a relationship is over you can’t dictate who your ex moves on to.
Your mate may genuinely feel that your ex is the girl for him.
Accept that your relationship is over and move on.
Otherwise, you’ll only torment yourself if you’re continuously wondering whether they got together before she ended it with you.
