IMMATURITY ISSUES

My wife behaves like a teenager in a mature woman’s body

She sleeps in late on the weekends and expects me to do all the cooking and cleaning

DEAR DEIDRE: MY wife behaves like a teenager in a mature woman’s body.

When we met she was gorgeous looking and incredibly loving but now her attitude towards me and the kids stinks.

I’m 40 and I’m a hands-on dad to our two girls who are five and seven. My wife, 39, had a job when we got married but as soon as she found out she was pregnant, she gave up.

My family all said that she was a beautiful bride - and she really was, but now she’s let herself go. She doesn’t exercise, she’s put on weight and she doesn’t even want to go to see the kids in their activities.

She spends her days watching Netflix once the kids are in school. She doesn’t come to bed until the early hours of the morning so our sex life is non-existent.

She sleeps in late on the weekends and expects me to do all the cooking and cleaning.

Lucky for me, I work remotely so I can show up for them. My wife looked after them as babies but as soon as they didn’t need her so much, she switched off from them.

You can cut the tension in the house with a knife most of the time.

I don’t want the kids to have a broken home but I feel like their mum has already checked out.

MORE FROM DEAR DEIDRE

DEIDRE SAYS: She sounds unhappy, possibly even depressed.

Find the time to talk to her and tell her you’re worried about her. She seems to have lost her zest for life and the children will be picking up on it.

Ask her what you can do to make things better for her so that she’s more invested in the children and you. If she is feeling low, encourage her to see her doctor for support.

My support pack called How To Look After Your Relationship will show her that things aren’t working as they should.
