When I accidentally got my girlfriend pregnant, you guided me through
DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN I first wrote to you, I was facing a dilemma after accidentally getting my girlfriend pregnant.
She’d asked me to move in and fully commit to her and our baby.
I’m 48 and she’s 39. We had been together, but living apart, for three years and both had children from previous relationships.
She fell pregnant when my condom split, and despite not wanting more children, I said I’d support her decision to have the baby.
But I didn’t want to go back to changing nappies or full-time fatherhood.
After six months she demanded I move in - or said she’d end things.
You advised me to talk about my feelings and recommended couples counselling. You also reminded me of my responsibilities to my baby daughter.
I’d decided to commit when a misunderstanding led to a huge row, after which she finished it, and blocked me.
Again, you were there to support me, Deidre.
Eventually, she agreed to talk. I realised how much I loved her and wanted to make things work. We're now having counselling.
Thank you Deidre for your ongoing support.
