DEAR DEIDRE: MY long-distance boyfriend often stands me up, and I’m sick of his behaviour. Am I being unreasonable?
Lately, whenever he’s supposed to come to see me, he makes last-minute excuses — like there’s too much traffic, or a friend urgently needs his help.
I’m 27 and he’s 28. We’ve been together for two years.
We live an hour’s drive apart. I have my own place, while he shares with flatmates, so it makes far more sense for him to drive to mine.
He was supposed to come last weekend, and we actually arranged to meet for dinner in a nice restaurant.
I was sitting there for half an hour before he called to say he was sorry but he wasn’t going to make it because he’d got caught up with work.
I don’t think he’s cheating on me, there’s no evidence of this.
We keep arguing about it. I’ve told him I hate people cancelling on me and I’ve asked him to give me fair warning.
What’s going on?

But if he’s doing it a lot, it suggests he has a problem with driving to yours, or he is checking out of the relationship.
You need to talk to him face to face – drive to his place if necessary – and ask him to be honest about his feelings so you can deal with any issues together.
My support pack, Looking After Your Relationship, should help.
