CARRYING ON

How can I move on after my fiancée cheated with a colleague at their works do?

READ Dear Deidre Editor Sally Land's personal replies to today's problems.

DEAR DEIDRE: MY fiancée turned up at home at midday looking completely dishevelled after her Christmas party.

She’d stayed in a hotel and I think she was still drunk when she admitted to having all-night sex with a colleague.

I was gobsmacked when she delivered this news but casually went upstairs to have a shower.

She’s talked about this guy for ages. He’s 25 and he took my girlfriend under his wing when she started her new job

We moved to London when I got a promotion. I’m a sales manager for a software company. My fiancée came with me and after waiting for a long time, she is finally training as a nurse in a private hospital.

She’s 23 and I’m 27.

I’ve been lucky enough to be able to buy us a flat because my grandparents left me money in their wills.

I pay most of the bills. She just buys the food.

She says she’s sorry for cheating and this guy means nothing to her.

She wants us to try again, but I can’t help feeling that she’s lying to me.

She’s still seeing the guy every day, she’s money-obsessed and I think she sees me as her meal ticket.

DEIDRE SAYS: If she’s finding her feet in London, the last thing she’ll want is to be looking for a new home but the betrayal and the hurt you’ve felt has no doubt cut deep.

If she’s still working with this guy, you’re bound to be worried.

If you’re willing to give her a second chance, tell her that you want this to work but she has to prove that she’s committed to you to regain the trust. You’re in the driving seat.
