TIME TO TALK

I’m terrified my sister will tell our parents about the draft ‘suicide’ letter she found

note

DEAR DEIDRE: MY ten-year-old little sister has read a note I left in my room and I’m terrified she’ll tell my parents.

I’m a girl of 15. I don’t have many friends and feel so lonely and down.

I wrote a letter a few weeks ago and hid it in my bedroom, just in case anything were to happen to me and then they would find it.

It said: “Sometimes I’d like to kill everyone around me and then myself.”

When I came back from netball practice last week, the note was crumpled up and it had clearly been read.

If my sister tells my parents, I won’t know what to say.

DEIDRE SAYS: She’d be doing you a favour if she does tell them. It’s not good to bottle up sad feelings.

It’s really important that you find a quiet moment to talk to your mum or dad and explain you are feeling low.

Your school may have a counsellor who can help but your doctor should be the first place to find support.

My e-leaflet Teens Guide To Socialising could help to lift your mood too.
