Get crafty and create eerily awesome kids’ Halloween costumes on a budget

HALLOWEEN is around the corner and it is time to get thinking about those all-important creepy costumes. But kitting out the little ones doesn’t have to mean spending a frightful amount.

With a few clever, crafty tricks, you will be able to turn household items into spooky outfits that are worth a treat. Here, Abby McHale gives you a step-by-step guide on how to make these ghoulish garments, modelled by Luca Barclay, from Cheshunt, Herts, and Sienna Knight, from Bedford – both aged five.

Day of the dead

You will need: Fake flowers, white paint, paintbrush, black headband, glue, skirt, plain black T-shirt, colourful tulle, face paint, black sandals.

  1. Glue the fake flowers on to the headband and leave to dry.
  2. Take the black T-shirt and paint a white skeleton outline onto the fabric.
  3. Cut the tulle into vertical strips.
  4. Tuck the tulle into the top of the skirt and let it hang down at the front.
