A WOMAN who identifies as a cat says that expressing her feline identity has brought her closer to her partner and has finally enabled her to become her true self.
Model Kat, 31, has been into kitten role-play her entire adult life and introduced what is known as ‘pet play’ to her partner Robrecht, 52.
And the aerospace engineer has been nothing but supportive of Kat’s unusual identity, since meeting at Comic Con eight months ago.
Kat, from Colorado, USA, opened up to Rob about her life as a cat at the very beginning of their relationship and Rob has not only been very supportive of her lifestyle but found Kat’s adopted feline mannerisms “cute”.
Kat told Barcroft TV: “I have always been different. I just always had a fascination with cats and I felt myself, I'm a cat. I go through life being a cat – it's just who I am.”
“It all started in high school, I have always been into cats, I mean that’s where my name came from. I was bullied a lot for wearing the ears and just being a nerd. I kind of kept it a little bit hidden.”
Kat, who also works at Cat Girl Manor - a residence in Colorado Springs that holds pet play and BDSM events - says that being a cat is more than just “dressing up.”
She continued: “This is not just dress up for me - it’s an everyday thing for me. When I first got into pet play I just got a sense of home.”
While the concept was new to Rob, he admits that he has since come round to the idea.
He said: “Pet play was new to me and something that Kat introduced me to.
"I was willing to try new things, I was quite into that especially the cuteness of the whole kitten thing.”
And the retired army colonel since goes to great efforts to accommodate Kat’s identity, even allowing her to climb on the table to drink her milk from a bowl.
As well as her cat ears and faux tail, Kat owns a range of leashes for her “master” to use, something Rob admits that he is less open to.
“The master side of it I’m not as comfortable with,” he added.
Aside from the pet play, Kat and Rob sometimes receive remarks about their age gap of over 30 years.
Rob said: “Most of my friends are supportive - maybe a few don’t understand.
“People are gonna be who they want to be in general, and I’m very accepting of that.
“I think that people should be unashamed and unafraid to explore what they wanna explore, if it happens to be pet play – yes.”
And Kat says she couldn’t be more grateful of her partner’s support in helping her accept who she is.
She said: “It’s hard but I’m going to be who I am whether people are supportive or not.
“I grew up and I had to pretend to be normal and not be the cat person but now I get to be myself I get to express myself, I am a kitten.
