Bride-to-be slams fiance after he ordered her a £15 engagement ring from Amazon which cost ‘less than a video game’
WE'VE all heard the old saying that the groom is supposed to save for three months before splashing out on an engagement ring for his bride-to-be - whether they stick to that is another matter entirely.
But while most reasonable people can't exactly blame a bloke for not wanting to spend thousands on a ring, one bride-to-be has been left heartbroken after discovering that her fiance simply ordered her a £15 design off Amazon. Yes, REALLY.
Sharing her dilemma on , the American bride explained: "My boyfriend of three years proposed to be a few weeks ago and I said yes.
"The ring he gave me has a simple design and consists of a thin silver sterling band with a cubic zirconia. It looked pretty and I was happy with it."
So far, so normal. However, her fiance's - shall we say - money-saving method came to light after one of his pal's also popped the question.
She continued: "My boyfriend just told me that his friend proposed to his girlfriend with a ring worth $3,500 [£2,700].
"He said he can't believe anyone would drop that much cash on a ring and that he thought it was a massive waste of money.
"And then he said, 'I got yours off of Amazon for $20 [£15], I'm glad you're not the kind of person who cares about how much a piece of jewellery costs."
Unsurprisingly, the bride says she's been left "really hurt" by the revelation but tried to laugh off his comments.
She added: "I can't quite articulate why this bothers me so much, but it's like...I've never even heard of an engagement ring costing that little.
"I never wanted an expensive ring, but I at least thought it would be something in the couple hundred dollar range, you know?"

Insisting that money isn't an issue for her fiance, she added: "We both have good jobs and he works in tech.
"It makes me feel sad that a ring symbolising his commitment to me is worth less than a new video game."
Even though the bride claims she is "still excited to marry him" and "likes the way the ring looks", she then asked whether she should try explaining how this revelation has affected her.
Since sharing her dilemma on the forum, the woman's post has racked up over 1,300 comments from other users who overwhelmingly argued that he was in the wrong.
One replied: "I don’t love the way he says 'I love that you’re the type of person who doesn’t care about that sort of thing' as if almost guilting her into being okay with it."
Another added: "There needs to be some grown up chats. Value is in what it means, but 20 dollars says "I didn't think about look, or you, what you wanted, just the cost."
Meanwhile, a third pointed out: "If you are planning on keeping the ring on for extended periods of time like most engagement rings, sterling silver + cubic zirconia is a terrible choice.
"They are not durable at all, will get damaged, and he’d know that if he spent even some time doing research before this purchase."
