Watching Christmas movies is GOOD for you says an expert – so have the popcorn at the ready
NOTHING feels better than snuggling down on your sofa at Christmas to enjoy a festive movie - and now there's research to prove it.
An expert has revealed that re-watching films like Love Actually, Elf and Home Alone can instantly boost our happiness.
Speaking to website , the psychologist explained that watching familiar Christmas favourites on your telly can trigger the release of the feel-good hormone dopamine.
"It does create that neurological shift that can produce happiness," they explained.
"I think anything that takes us out of our normal habituation, the normal day in, day out … signals our senses, and then our senses measure if it’s pleasing or not."
So, there's no need to feel guilty for viewing Miracle On 34th Street for a hundredth time - even though it's still only November.
However, the expert added that it's not just watching Christmas classics that will lift your spirits this festive season.
They also noted: "Christmas decorating will spike dopamine, a feel-good hormone [too]."
As well as upping your happiness levels, the neurotransmitter also eases anxiety and stress.
And why not get even more in the spirit by putting up the tinsel in a Christmas jumper.
Primark have launched a range of sweaters featuring carol singing cats and pugs in Santa hats.
Similarly, Studio is selling pyjamas with sprouts on for the whole family that start at only £6.
