FROM announcing the gender to throwing a picture perfect baby shower, these days it's pretty commonplace for expectant mums to document their journey to motherhood on social media.
That said, one influencer and mum-to-be has taken matters to all new extremes by creating an entire Instagram account for her unborn baby girl - and then using it to comment on her own posts.
American influencer Temitope Adesina, from Charlotte, North Carolina, shared a photo of her baby bump with her 236,000 followers yesterday as part of a paid promotion with moisturiser brand Palmers.
In the picture, the mum-to-be is seen cradling her bump and admiring it in the mirror.
Temitope's baby's Instagram account then commented, "Mommy, is that me?", to which the influencer replied, "of course it's you my princess."
Earlier this week, the baby's account - - shared a photo of Temitope in her first trimester with the caption: "Hi mommy! Looking forward to seeing your beautiful face.
"This time seven months ago in [mum's] womb. It's really cosy in here mama. I love you."
Temitope then replied: "I love you, my love. I'm so excited to meet you."
After another user commented on the same post asking if it was a joke, the influencer revealed that she'd created the account with her husband for fun.
She replied: "We create a page for our unborn and we are just being funny with each other.
"We aren't promoting anything but rather humour. There's no need to tear each other down."
Unsurprisingly, the unborn baby's Instagram account has caused a stir among the star's followers.
Tweeting a screengrab of the exchange between mother and "daughter", one unimpressed social media user wrote: "This influencer is pregnant and now she's talking to herself through her unborn child's Instagram. Tell me social media isn't a sickness."
The post has since racked up over 218,000 "likes" and been shared on Reddit where users likened it to a "Black Mirror episode".
Responding to the tweet, one user joked: "The internet was a mistake."
Another added: "I will never understand why parents make Facebooks and Instagrams for their unborn children."
However, not everyone was so critical of the account and others argued that it's just a bit of harmless fun.
"There's nothing wrong, she's really excited to meet her baby," a third replied. "We can't judge her when we've not given birth, all expecting mothers talk to their babies - it's just that hers is on social media."
"Sad people enjoy bullying a pregnant woman and then they call her crazy," one fan responded. "I can't believe how many people here hating on this couple for having fun."
