After incredible Super Bowl, we reveal what Jennifer Lopez does to her body and face to look so young
SWINGING around a pole in a sparkling catsuit for the half-time show at last Sunday’s Super Bowl, it’s hard to believe Jennifer Lopez is 50.
In her racy outfit, the Jenny From The Block singer wowed fans with her energetic performance and could easily have been mistaken for a woman in her twenties.
So how does the mum of two keep her figure and face looking so young?
You guessed it – with a LOT of hard work, as we reveal.
The BOD
PLENTY of effort goes into keeping J-Lo’s body toned.
She works out up to six days a week – and not just to keep her wobbly bits at bay, but to keep her mind healthy, too.
She said: “I am 100 per cent convinced that working out is part of what makes me so happy.”
To keep her workouts fresh, she vows never to do the same thing two days in a row – and it seems she has tried all types, from yoga to HIIT and boxing.
She often works out with her fiancé, former baseball player Alex Rodriguez, who called their partnership the “dream team”.
In LA, she works with fitness guru Tracy Anderson, whose clients include Gwyneth Paltrow and who has become a bit of an A-lister on the fitness scene herself.
Tracy’s workouts concentrate on getting lean with a combination of arm weights and lower body exercises focusing on the core, thighs and THAT famous bum.
When in New York, trainer David Kirsch puts her through a high-intensity workout which includes circuit training, kickboxing and ab workouts. She certainly didn’t get that six-pack from sitting on the sofa.
POLE-DANCING
David has even revealed some of J-Lo’s favourite moves to help sculpt her body.
He says she uses the “platypus walk” to tighten those glutes.
Give it a try by starting in a squat position with your hands behind your head.
Then, holding the squat, waddle forwards a few steps, hold in position and waddle back.
David hails this as “the quickest, most effective workout for your butt”.
And, for those toned arms, J-Lo is a fan of the Spider-Man push-up.
Try it by getting into a plank position, lift one foot up and bring your leg to the side, trying to touch your elbow with your knee, then repeat with the other leg.
She upped her strength workouts to help her with her pole-dancing role in movie Hustlers last year – and she finds the best time to get her workouts in is the morning.
She told American entertainment website Hollywood Life: “I don’t like doing it later. It’s harder to get there when I have my day going already.”
This is all on top of the energetic dance routines for which J-Lo has become so well known.
But, unlike us, she never makes excuses to swerve the gym.
Rarely missing a workout, she told US women’s mag Redbook: “Sometimes when I get home and I’m not feeling so great, I make myself go to the gym.
“Then I come home and take a shower, put on a great outfit, some make-up, tie up my hair and I feel pepped up and great about myself.”
If only we had J-Lo’s discipline.
She told Hello! magazine: “I really believe that when you take care of yourself and work to stay healthy, you’re better able to take care of those you love. So working out is definitely a priority for me.”
The FACE
SHE credits her flawless skin to getting a good night’s kip.
J-Lo said: “The number-one tip is to always get enough sleep. I can’t stress this enough.
“I would love to get nine or ten hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight.”
And she never turns in at night wearing her make-up.
Her bedtime routine involves wiping off the cosmetics and using hydrating night creams.
She also always washes her face after a workout to keep her pores clean and uses exfoliating glycolic acid to “get that healthy glow and clear skin”. Skincare brand
The Ordinary does a great Glycolic Acid toning solution (£6.80, ) if you want to bag yourself some glow, too.
J-Lo shuns sunbathing and makes sure she uses suncream on her face daily, followed by Dr Hauschka’s Rose Day Cream (£30.50, ).
But she believes beauty really does come from within.
Jen told InStyle magazine: “I am a firm believer in meditating and when you are happy and feel joy and love, you radiate beauty.”
The DIET
HER top rule for staying fit and healthy is to keep hydrated.
She said: “Drinking plenty of water, especially before a workout, can help you push harder and get more out of your exercise.”
J-Lo avoids all caffeine and alcohol and has cut out all processed and refined foods, on the advice of trainer Tracy Anderson.
Tracy told People magazine: “I have her eating very clean because she needs really good fuel for all the things she’s doing.
“It’s all organic and it’s all very well thought out, with the balance of very high-quality proteins and a lot of nutrient-dense food. Everything is fresh.”
J-Lo usually begins the day with a protein shake. A typical lunch is salmon with a broccoli, zucchini and pepper salad and vinaigrette dressing.
Dinner is often protein with quinoa or, she says: “Rice and beans, which I grew up with. And I like pork and chicken – especially Puerto Rican style!”
All well and good, but what happens when she eats out?
Does she splurge and opt for a burger and chips?
Sadly not. J-Lo sticks to a healthy diet to keep that body in the best condition. She said: “I’m a very social person and love spending time with my friends and family, so when we go out I try to make healthy choices.
“Most restaurants offer healthy, low-calorie meals so I watch for things on the menu that fit my lifestyle.
“I’ll have a salad or some fish with veggies. And I drink lots of water throughout the meal.”
She even carries around snacks of fruit, veg and nuts in case she gets peckish.
While she has never followed fad diets, she and fiancé Alex completed a ten-day challenge last summer, ditching carbs and sugar.

But, fear not, J-Lo is human after all, revealing while a judge on telly show American Idol that she does have a weak spot, thank god.
She said: “I eat a chocolate chip cookie almost every day.”
