Savvy mum transforms dining room by chopping up her table and using bargains from The Range and eBay

WHEN it comes to furnishing your home, it's only natural to want to buy a dining table big enough to fit all your nearest and dearest around.

There's just one small problem: we hardly ever have all our extended family under one roof.

Well if you've also made this easy mistake, one savvy mum has revealed how you can repurpose your dining room table to better suit your home - and it looks super chic too.

Posting on the Facebook group , the DIY fan explained how she was bored of her enormous dining table - especially with five kids in the house.

Rather than forking out for a smaller table, the woman wrote: "So I had this crazy idea to cut my old six seat dining table in half - and I have to say, I'm pleased with how it turned out."

The mum simply cut the table down the middle and screwed it into the walls to make a corner dining area.

She then removed the legs

She continued: "I have five kids. My nephew and niece moved in with me last year as well as three of mine."

As she didn't want to move house, the mum set about decluttering her home.

"I'm working my way decorating the rooms," she added. "With space saving and storage in mind."

After she'd nailed it to the wall, the mum added some trendy hairpin legs she'd bought off eBay and then covered it in Fablon from The Range.

She added: "It may not be perfect, the table was old and a bit bowed. But it works and the kids love it.

"I'm loving less of their clutter lying around. I did every little bit myself and I've never used a jigsaw before."

When she was done repurposing the table, the mum replaced her old leather chairs with stools - which double up as extra storage thanks to their removable lids.

"Not only is it space saving," the mum continued: "The kids have a lot more space to play and using ottomans as seats means they get their own storage for toys etc."

Adding some finishing touches to the room, the mum went over the walls with a lick of Dunelm's 'Peacock' blue paint.

She also added a stunning window-shaped mirror above the corner table which she bagged for £50 from eBay and placed some tartan cushions from The Range on top of the stools.

Unsurprisingly, other members of the group were blown away with the super trendy (and practical) finish.

One replied: "Amazing! Well thought out and innovative - love that you've managed to get some extra storage from the ottomans too!"

"I think it's absolutely genius," another added.
