Mrs Hinch shares how she cleans her mattress – and the cheap trick which keeps it smelling fresh for weeks
SINCE Mrs Hinch – aka Sophie Hinchcliffe – slipped into our Instagram feeds, the cleaning guru has completely transformed the way we tidy and maintain our homes – one cleaning hack at a time.
And the “cleanfluencer” keeps on giving because there is no trick she doesn’t share and no surface left untidy, even when it comes to the painstaking task of keeping her mattress spotless.
Mrs Hinch showed her army of fans – all 3.1 million of them – how she keeps her mattress clean and fresh and it was surprisingly super easy and affordable.
Posting to her Instagram stories, Sophie demonstrated her mattress cleaning method which involved nothing more than bicarbonate of soda, a sieve, a hoover and her favourite essential oil.
After stripping the bed, the the cleaning-obsessed star used the sieve to sprinkle the bicarb powder all over the mattress and recommended leaving it for at least an hour.
In response to fans asking about the bicarb soda, Sophie said: “For those asking why I use bicarb and what does it do, it’s an odour eliminator so any odours that may be lingering in the mattress it just soaks them up and absorbs them. It works really, really well. ”
With a full box of the stuff setting you back less than £2, it’s well worth picking up a pack or two for all your cleaning tasks.
Mrs Hinch herself insists it’s the best way to deodorise the mattress and that it even helps get rid of any odours that might arise from children wetting the bed.
Moving on from the mattress, Mrs Hinch then added a few drops of lavender essential oil to each of her pillows, admitting it’s her favourite fragrance.
Aside from its fresh scent, though, lavender has calming and soothing properties which help you get a better night’s sleep, so it makes perfect sense to indulge in the wonderful smelling oil before you sleep.
After leaving the mattress to air out for the day, with her lavender-infused pillows sitting neatly on the bed, Mrs Hinch returned to her master bedroom in the evening to vacuum the bicarb off the bed.
The star took her Shark handheld vacuum to her “cooler extreme” mattress to remove the excess bicarb and the result was a fresh smelling, clean looking mattress.
Based on the impressive results, we can’t wait to try it out ourselves, because who doesn’t love a good nights sleep.
Now, excuse us while we pop to the store to grab ourselves a box of bicarb.
