Mum slammed for hanging fairy lights on her daughter’s bunk bed after makeover
A MUM has been slammed for attaching fairy lights to her daughter’s bunk bed over fears she could accidentally strangle herself.
The mum claimed she added the multi-coloured lights above her daughter’s bed as she doesn't like the dark.
While she isn’t allowed to have them on all night, the mum said her little girl enjoys reading under them before bed.
Sharing snaps of the bed to Facebook group , she said: “Added fairy lights to my daughters bunk bed as she hates the dark…
“(They won't be left on all night, just while she's reading books and getting to sleep)
Despite her bed looking like a cosy, colourful nook, fellow parents have raised concerns about the wires.
Multiple people commented on her Facebook post warning the mum over the risk of strangulation due to the wires.
One person said: “I'm sorry they look pretty but I wouldn't risk of it getting stuck round your child's neck.”
Another wrote: “Led strip lights would have been better… and safer, and with them lights you can extend them and go around the ceiling and it comes with a remote its creates a nice feeling.”
A third warned: “Please be careful with the cable. I understand they will be turned off.

"My 8 year old (asd) would wrap it round her neck. It looks good though!”
This mum suggested: “To combat this, I cable tied them to the bed. Might be an idea for OP.”
Agreeing, another wrote: “I do love them but agree that cable ties should be added.”
And sticking up for the mum, this parent said: “Looks lovely. I’m sure no mother would intentionally put her child’s life at risk.
"She didn’t ask for parenting advice. She was simply showing what she’s done to combat her daughter’s fear of the dark.”
After receiving a wave of warnings, the mum defended herself claiming the set-up was safe.
She hit back, commenting: “I have looped them around the side bars so she cannot undo them and she knows the dangers so wouldn't touch them anyway.
“I have explained to my daughter that she mustn't touch them and the dangers if she does, shes quite sensible but I do appreciate your concern.”
