William and Kate hire Harry and Meghan’s social media guru who helped them ‘conquer the world’ via Instagram
KATE Middleton and Prince William have enlisted the social media guru behind Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s record breaking Instagram account.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex employed former Burbery employee David Watkins last summer to give their account a “boost.”
But since quitting royal duties and relocating to LA the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been keen to improve their own account.
Mr Watkins has now taken the role of Digital Communications & Social Media for TRH The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge - updating his LinkedIn profile accordingly.
Kensington Palace declined to comment.
The keen hockey player landed the £30,000 role at the Sussex household last year, and has been appointed a similar role with the Cambridges following their departure.
A royal source said at the time: “Harry and Meghan want to conquer the world and they want to do it through the prism of social media to really connect with their followers.
“David is the perfect person to help them do this: his amazing video skills and visionary photographs have already been wiser praised by the Sussexes’ fans.”
The Cambridges previously relied on the same social media team as Buckingham Palace.
Millenial David, born in Ireland, describes himself as: “I am a marketing, sporting and travel fanatic with both experiences on and off these fields, an International hockey player, Ironman and four-time marathon finisher with passion and knowledge of these sectors.
''Constantly challenging the status quo with a ‘start with why’ attitude, I find myself becoming more and more intrigued with finding scenarios outside of my comfort zone and asking the question 'How can I help others?'”
Harry and Meghan wrote their final post as they ditched their official SussexRoyal website and Instagram account last month.
The couple wrote: “Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world” and signed off as “Harry & Meghan”.
