Laura filled her tub with hot water and poured a quarter of a bottle of disinfectant in, along with some bicarbonate of soda.
She left it overnight to soak, and when she returned the water was nearly black from all the filth hiding in the rug.
After washing it and letting it dry, Laura said it felt like a whole new rug, and she shared her method for getting it looking as good as new.
She posted before-and-after photos to Facebook group , saying: “I had A LOT of comments saying that by doing this my rug will smell of wet dog or it will shrink....
"Well I’m happy to say that NONE of the above happened.
“It smells AMAZING ! I used tropical zoflora and bicarb and now it feels like a whole new carpet.”
And explaining her step-by-step method, Laura added: “I put it in a hot bath with just over 1/4 of a zoflora bottle (I used tropical scent) and quite a lot bicarbonate of soda and left overnight.
“Then in the morning I stuck it in the shower and rinsed it down.”
But the results weren’t instant, as she admitted it took a few days to dry.
Laura added: “Then due to it raining I had to put it in the garage but as soon as the sun came out it then went outside.
“It took roughly a couple of days to dry.”
The transformation has been liked more than 700 times, as people said they’d give it a go themselves.
One person commented: “I’m so glad I saw your update. I’ll be doing this with my rug. Thank you.”

Someone else thought: “WOW that's amazing at the amount of dirt that comes out of the rug. Great job, well done.”
