According to a royal insider the PM and his fiance should expect an “enormous bouquet” of flowers from Her Majesty in line with previous Downing Street arrivals.
Back in 2000, the then Labour leader and PM Tony Blair and his wife Cherie welcomed their youngest son Leo, and were the first couple to have a baby at No.10 since 1850.
And reporter Euan Ferguson witnessed a rather large gift arriving for the couple not long after the birth.
Writing in the Guardian, he said: ““At about noon, a large bouquet arrived from the Queen and Prince Philip.
“At least, we think it was.”
Ferguson explained that the postman had winked, telling reporters, “Can’t tell you who that was from, mate.”
But he did say, ““More important even than” before gesturing to Downing Street.
The Queen sent a private message to the PM after fiancee Carrie Symonds gave birth this morning.
Buckingham Palace said the Queen has sent a private message to both Boris and Carrie, sending them good wishes and congratulating them on the birth of their baby boy.
In a statement, a spokesman for the PM said: "The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well.
“The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”
Boris is only the third Prime Minister to welcome a baby while in office with the birth of Leo Blair in 2000 and Florence Cameron in 2010 preceding it.
Carrie, 32, had been self-isolating since the end of March after experiencing coronavirus symptoms.
It’s thought she stayed in the couple’s south London flat as Boris battled coronavirus in intensive care.
Boris was due to take PMQs today, but it’s likely Dominic Raab will step in while the PM spends time with his new son.
