People are putting their bedsheets in the freezer to try and help them sleep when it is hot at night
WITH the UK heading into summer there are some scorching nights ahead - with parts of the country already basking in sweltering heat.
Temperatures have already hit the late 20s, with the late May bank holiday estimated to be a record-breaking 25c, with highs of 27c forecast for later in the week.
While the good weather is particularly welcome seeing as all holidays are cancelled, it can make sleeping unbearable.
Most of us don’t have air-conditioning, so have to rely on open windows and if you’re lucky enough a fan.
But they can do little to affect the stifling temperatures in bedrooms, which sees people tossing and turning all night.
To try and cool down and get a good night’s sleep, people are sharing a handy tip online - and it involves your freezer.
Other tips to help you sleep in a heatwave
- Sleep downstairs
- Freeze a damp flannel
- Place a bowl of ice water in front of your fan
- Switch your sheets to a more breathable material
Brits are freezing their bedsheets to keep their beds nice and cool while they try and doze off, and claim it’s like a DIY air conditioner.
If your room is like a sauna, take some fresh sheets and pop them in a sealable bag and leave them in your freezer.
Take them out just before bed and put them on your bed, and if you don’t have room to put your duvet cover in the freezer try just your pillowcases instead.
One woman came up with another way of cooling her bed down, as she tweeted: “I put a shirt in the freezer for a few hours and then stuck it under my bed sheet when I went to bed.
“Also took an ice drink. I’m cool.”
Someone else posted: “Put your pillowcases and bed sheets in the freezer for half an hour before bed.
“This allows the material to soak up cool air and provide a cold and comfortable surface for you to sleep on. do not put your duvets in the freezer, only the sheets!”
A third wrote: “If your ac isn’t working put your bed sheets in your fridge/freezer over the day, and have a peaceful sleep at night in this unbearable weather covered with cooling sheets. You’re welcome.”
Someone else said: "Sheets in the freezer before going to bed. Google DIY air conditioners.”
“This person also recommended putting your bedding in a bag first, as they added: “Put your sheets & pillow cases in a bag, seal it tight and throw it in the freezer. Take the bag out before bed.”
And someone else added: “Exactly. Ugh. Every year I dread the return of summer
“Guess it’s time to start stuffing some some bed sheets into the freezer again to help snooze with as blankets lol.”
If you’re still feeling toasty this person shared a few tips to keep you chilled, writing: “Things to cool you down:
“Put your pillow cases in a bag and stick them in the freezer for 30 mins before bed
“Mist your bed sheet with a cold water spray. Mist yourself with a cold water spray
“Sit with you feet in a bowl of cold water before bed.”
