The mother admitted she had resorted to social media after trying to clean her dirty shower with household products such as CLR, BKR and KOH but the stains wouldn’t budge.

She used half a lemon pushed inside a dishwasher tablet and plain vinegar to transform the shower glass.

Sharing the results of the incredible solution on Facebook, Jess wrote: “We have just been through one of the longest droughts so we were reliant on bore water which left the most disgusting white residue on everything in the shower.

“I’ve previously tried koh, CLR, BKF everything you can think of and still couldn’t budge it. Until I tried a few tips I’ve found from this page.

“I cut a used lemon in half and put a dry dishwashing tablet inside and used this as a scrubber and spray plain vinegar on the glass, scrub away and rinse off.

“I couldn’t believe it worked so well. I wish I had taken a before and after pic of the ensuite as it was worse. But I took a few of the kids so you could see.”

A third added: “Omg thanks for sharing. This problem is the bane of my existence. We are in bore water, the white spots do my head in. Along with turning the silicon orange/brown."

Jess’ photos showed the simple trick of placing a dry dishwasher tablet inside a real lemon and using it as a genius homemade detergent.

The citrusy fruit has all kinds of helpful uses around the house from removing stains to freshening up showers, kitchens and pots and pans.

Vinegar is typically used in the dishwasher to remove spots and hard water build up on plates and glassware - but also worked well in this instance.
