From £9.50 an hour au pair to the world’s richest wag – the fairytale story of ‘Mrs Ronaldo’ Georgina Rodriguez
SHE travels by private jet, enjoys an £80,000 allowance per month and wears a £615,000 ring.
But nine years ago the rumoured fiancee of Cristiano Ronaldo was earning £9.50 an hour as an au pair for a family in Bristol.
Georgina Rodriguez, 26, caught the football superstar’s eye in 2016 when he walked into a Gucci shop where she was a sales assistant.
Now she is the world’s wealthiest WAG — and mother to their two-year-old daughter Alana Martina.
It sounds like the stuff of fairy-tales, but her rags-to-riches journey hasn’t been without its problems.
In 2018, she stood by Ronaldo, 35, after a woman accused him of rape in a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. He denies the claims and faces no criminal charges.
In a recent interview, Georgina said: “Being the partner of someone so famous is not easy but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
‘LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT’
It’s a life Georgina surely never even imagined, growing up in a working-class family in the small village of Jaca in northern Spain.
Despite showing promise as a ballet dancer, her parents Jorge and Ana could not afford lessons.
She left home at 15, earning £250 a week as a shop worker while sharing a cramped house with five people.
A year later she moved to the city of San Sebastian and worked at high street clothes store Massimo Dutti.
To help pursue a career in luxury retail, she decided to learn English — so she moved to the UK to work as a live-in au pair.
Two years later, Georgina returned to Spain and became a retail assistant at the Gucci shop in Madrid where she met Ronaldo, who is worth around £300million.
In an interview with The Sun on Sunday, she said: “It was love at first sight for both.”
The pair met up a few days later at a fashion event and quickly became inseparable.
They tried to keep their relationship secret — but Real Madrid fans turned up at Georgina’s work to take photos of her.
Her bosses soon grew tired of the attention and she was dismissed in December 2016. She landed another job at a Prada store earning £1,000 a month plus commission — but fans followed her there too, forcing her to give up her retail career.
Georgina recalled: “They used to call up and ask about me, pretending to be clients.
“There were always photographers waiting for me. I started to be very uncomfortable.”
While she was pregnant with Alana, Ronaldo’s twins Eva and Mateo were born to a surrogate.
Georgina is now step-mum to the three-year-olds as well as the footballer’s son Cristiano Jr, ten. Ronaldo has never revealed the identity of the boy’s mother.
On becoming a full-time mum to four children in her early twenties, Georgina said: “It has definitely brought us closer.”
Now it looks like marriage could soon be on the cards.
In August, Georgina posted an image of herself and Ronaldo on Instagram captioned “YESSS” and featuring a red rose emoji.
Days later, she was pictured wearing a Cartier ring — but Georgina insists she is still grounded.
Before their move to Italy in 2018 when Ronaldo joined Juventus, she enrolled in a financial accounting course in Madrid.
She said: “I loved earning money for myself and never let myself be helped.
“If I can buy something not too expensive, I do. If I can’t wear a Chanel, I buy a Zara.”
When Piers Morgan asked Ronaldo if he would marry Georgina, he said: “One day, for sure. I open the heart for her and she opens the heart for me.”
