Help your liver recover from all those extra units with these great products
MORE people died from alcohol-related causes last year than at any time in the past two decades, due largely to the pandemic.
If you are one of those who stayed safe but still went over your weekly units, here are some ways to help your liver recover.

DROPS
- Avogel, £10.50, 50ml, avogel.co.uk -
The good thing about these is you have to up your water intake to have them, because they need to be diluted.
Avogel’s Milk Thistle Complex Drops contains liver-loving milk thistle with dandelion, artichoke, peppermint and dried boldo leaves that are great for digestive health.
A lovely hint of peppermint, and great to have on your desk.
TABLETS
- Liver Support from Natures Plus, £23.95 for a month’s supply, amazon.co.uk -
If you prefer a tablet, Liver Support from Natures Plus includes essential nutrients scientifically researched to support liver health – choline, vitamins B and C and selenium, plus amino acids and traditional herbs including turmeric, milk thistle, dandelion, artichoke and burdock.
You can take two easy-to-swallow capsules a day.
DRINK
- Innocent coconut water, RRP £2.49 for 500ml, innocentdrinks.co.uk -
Dehydration can have a direct effect on the liver’s ability to detoxify.
Coconut water is a super-hydrator that “significantly” reduces elevated levels of liver function enzyme markers.
Innocent’s 100% pure coconut water tastes great, is fat-free and a good source of potassium.
Just 70 cals per 500ml carton.

BUDGET
- Shea Moisture Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore shampoo, superdrug.com, 473ml, £12.99 -
This one’s my favourite. It’s a clarifying cleanser.
It removes product build-up on the scalp while infusing hair with nourishing moisture.
The peppermint oil in particular smells great and tingles the scalp while you work up the suds.
It left my hair feeling clean without being stripped of natural oils.
MID-RANGE
- Only Curls’ All Curl Cleanser, onlycurls.com, 300ml, £16 -
A blend of avocado and kukui oils and aloe.
It’s sulfate-free, zero-silicones and contains no drying alcohols.
It foams up gently with a delicious smell, all while making sure your curls and scalp are left with a squeaky-clean feeling.
The cleanser is 100 per cent vegan and the bottles are made from bio-plastic and fully recyclable. Would recommend.

It’s powered by Living Proof’s “Healthy Curl Complex” to gently cleanse, without stripping the hair, and it smells wonderful.
This cleaned my curls without making them feel dry and worked really well with other products, making curls bouncy and defined for more days.
