How often you should REALLY be showering according to an expert – and it’s probably not as much as you think
CELEBS are always saying or doing something that causes a public debate.
This time around it's the revelation that stars like Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, and Jake Gyllenhaal only 'shower when necessary', whilst on the other hand Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson showers three times a day - so who is right?
It's something you may have wondered, but never dared ask your mates - just how often SHOULD you shower?
Are you showering too much? Or do you need to jump in the shower and scrub asap?
Chartered Scientist (and founder of skincare brand ) Bruce Green has settled the debate about how often you need to be showering.
Be prepared to be shocked.
Bruce said: "Most people choose to shower daily, however over-exposure to soap, and very warm/hot water can throw off the acid mantle.
“This can be particularly problematic for people with skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

“Some soaps are very alkaline, which with overuse can lead to skin irritation.
“Too frequent showering can also disrupt the skin's microbiome which plays a vital role in protecting our immune system.
“On the other side, however, going too long without bathing, will eventually lead to body odour, and allow dead skin cells, sweat, and oil to build up on the surface of the skin and clog pores. This can trigger acne breakouts."
So, how often should we be showering?
Bruce said: "For many people, a full body shower every other day, or even every third day is likely to be sufficient."
Yep, you read that correctly - every third day is sufficient enough to shower...
Fed up of showering every day? Don't worry, you don't need to!
Bruce added: “Adequate personal hygiene can be maintained by using a clean washcloth to wipe down areas that need the regular cleaning, such as underarms and the groin area.
“People that work in jobs where they get dirty like construction workers, farmers, gardeners, should be showering daily, as well as those who are involved in daily physical exertion such as athletes, personal trainers, fitness instructors, and The Rock.
“Using a pH balanced body shampoo or soap, however often you shower will not destroy the skins natural acid mantle, and keep away any skin irritation.
“However it is important to wash your face every night at least, to remove dirt, makeup, and sunscreen, which can all clog pores.
“And, of course, frequent hand washing is imperative."
