I saved hundreds of pounds by building my own garden hot tub shelter – it was really easy, here’s how you can
A MUM-OF-TWO created her own hot tub shelter saving hundreds by doing the work herself.
Simone Fennelly, 35, from Essex told money-saving community she decided to build the shelter after she had spent so much time in the garden after lockdown.
The mum said they decided to focus on making their garden as inviting as possible, which meant building the gorgeous cover for her home hot tub.
Simone, shares her DIY journey on Instagram with the handle , said when the weather got cooler she wanted to make sure the hot tub was protected.
She did some research and saw how expensive these structures can be.
She said: “I searched online to see how much these types of structures would cost and the prices were so high - for the type I wanted it would set me back £500!
“I just laughed as, for what they were, I was not ever going to pay that amount of money.
“Instead, I made a sketch based on a couple I’d seen and the kids added some bits, such as a step for Aimee and towel hooks for Keira.

“And of course John wanted somewhere to keep a drink cold.”
Simone shopped for supplies on Wickes’ website and decided to go for two 6x6ft fence panels for £54.
She said: “Those wanting to do a similar project may prefer to get one 6x6ft panel and two 3x3ft panels, but it’s cheaper to buy the two 6x6ft panels and chop it in half!”
In addition to the fence panels, she bought a packet of roof battens for £32, fence paint for £21 and screws for £6.
The mum-of-two saved cash by using left over timber from another project.

The savvy saver then made the frame for her structure using the fence panels.
She said: “Then I framed the roof and floor. To add support I added corner struts.
“A centre post was added across the roof for strength. I cut the floor mats to size and fitted them.
“Then, I added the roof slats. I painted the entire structure in a slate grey colour, using two coats.
“With leftover battens and slats from the main project I made steps.
“Then I measured the space, made a batten frame and added slats to cover the frame. This was also painted grey.”
She finished it all off with some pretty lights that were already in her garden.
