When is Chinese New Year 2022?

ANOTHER holiday is soon approaching as Chinese New Year 2022 will be taking place.

This long-time celebration is a day to welcome good fortune and spend time with loved ones.

When is Chinese New Year 2022?

This year Chinese New Year will land on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year are often used synonymously and in the right context usually refer to the same holiday.

Chinese New Year is not just one day as New Year usually is in other countries.

The Chinese New Year lasts for a total of 16 days, but only the first seven days are considered a public holiday.

The public holiday will be honored from January 31 through February 6, 2022.

What is the 2022 Chinese zodiac?

Each year there is a different animal from the Chinese zodiac that will be the designated animal for the year.

2022 is officially the year of the tiger, in 2021 it was the year of the ox.

Tigers are the third animal in the Chinese zodiac and are known to represent confidence.

According to the , the tiger thought it was originally first in the zodiac.

"According to legend, Tiger was confident that no one could compete with its speed and vigor for the celestial race that would decide the order of the zodiacs.

"However, when Tiger climbed out of the river, thinking it was first, it was informed that Rat placed first for its cunning and Ox placed second for its diligence. This left the king of the jungle having to settle for third place," the site states.

When is the Lantern Festival?

The Chinese New Year is separated into three periods of celebration.

There is the Little Year, the Spring Festival, and the Lantern Festival.

Preparations for the Lantern Festival begin on February 12, 2022, and the celebration is held on February 15, 2022.

A centuries-old tradition for the Chinese New Year holiday is to make sure to wear your newest clothes when visiting loved ones for the holiday.

"In the Song Dynasty (960–1279 AD), everyone would show off their new clothing as they visited friends on New Year’s Day," the states.
